Honoured to speak amongst the gathering of brilliant minds from around the world today in Bhopal @g20org . When we bring science into the realm of society & culture,we open up new possibilities for understanding & connection. We begin to see the ways in which science can help us address some of the most pressing issues facing our communities,from poverty & inequality to climate change & public health. From violence to deprivation from crowded shanties to loneliness of those within,to the lack of very basic human facilities,all of these,are an intrinsic part of the lives of the children I work with. And get there is hope,I try transmit the hope that science will solve some of their problems & try give them confidence that society is with them & cares. Art,like science,is a way of exploring & expressing the human experience. It is a way of connecting with others & sharing our perspectives on the world. Through programs that combine scientific knowledge with cultural sensitivity,we are making progress in addressing these challenges.We are using technology to deliver education & healthcare services to slum communities & working with local artists & cultural leaders to create programs that celebrate the unique cultural heritage of these communities.
